Retro (Color) Blocked

At last, the long-awaited season of summer is finally here! As a definite sun worshiper I welcome the heat and yes, even the humidity, with open arms.  It’s the perfect time to boast bright, bold color. I have to admit for a very long time I shied away from wearing anything I then saw as brass and loud. It was like something in me just didn’t think I could pull it off and felt much safer and more comfortable in neutrals and earth tones or my tried & true fave, all black. However, things have changed and I can now embrace the beauty of rich, vibrant hues. Perhaps it’s a newfound sense of self and confidence therein, I’m not sure, but I find it somehow liberating to allow what I feel on the inside to be expressed on the outside. Isn’t that, after all, what personal style is all about?

Today’s look features a very basic ensemble. Just a plain cotton tee, lightweight flared slacks and platform peep-toe sandals, each in bold primary color. Totally went Crayola that day lol. The look is simple enough, yet when tied together (no pun intended) with a colorful print scarf and topped off with oversize sunnies (both found at the local beauty supply for about $15 total), it takes on a vintage feel. For some reason I just wanted to try a retro vibe this particular day. Something about the 70s just adds so much sass and glamour and a lot of those vibes/trends are back in vogue today.  To get in on the action just look for pieces like wide leg pants, funky prints, platform shoes and definitely go for the aforementioned accessories. You’ll nail it every time.

Here are some fellow bloggers who’ve also embraced the notion of vibrant color blocking:

So this summer, regardless of your style vibe, age, size or even body type, I encourage you to embrace the beauty of life, vitality and the boldness of color. I suspect as you do, you’ll shine as brightly as the sun. Long live summer! 🙂
